What is Japandict?

Japandict is an online Japanese dictionary aimed to be one of the most complete and userfriendly on the Internet. It uses the publicly available data on which most online Japanese dictionaries are based on, but it's trying to show all the information in a much friendlier way.

How was it born?

When I started learning Japanese I created a Twitter account (@learnkanji) where I wanted to put a new Japanese word everyday with it's translation so I could learn vocabulary easily. I started having followers and it increased it's popularity quite fast. After some time I decided to create this dictionary so I could give more information about each word I was tweeting.

Are you Japanese?

No, I'm not and (unfortunately) I don't speak fluent Japanese, so there may be errors in the dictionary. If you find some please contact us.

How does Japandict work?

There is a team of ninja working for us and looking for the definition of each word. When somebody is looking for a word in japandict, a ninja writes the definition it fast enough to look like its computer generated.

So, next time you see a ninja, you better invite him to a beer.
